The Pain (and Promise) of Promotion
So it all started this afternoon while I was in the middle of editing my latest film. There I was, figuring out how to match up picture to the music I was temping when I started becoming distracted by thoughts on how to better promote my work. Although I had managed my own .com website for years, it was more of a chore than a passion... and my infrequent updates certainly reflected that. The cumbersome design of the technology I was using was extremely limiting and it seemed that whenever I decided I needed to advertise my work, the task was so daunting that I ended up just throwing it up on my Facebook page... not an ideal situation. It was also more expense than it was worth, so when it came time for my annual renewal I decided to let it lapse and figure out a new option when I had the time and energy to do so. So much for that second set of 1000 business cards I'd ordered just a few months back. Doh!
What really got the ball rolling in my head actually had nothing to do with me but with another film composer. He maintains a fascinating and detailed Blog on his website that I absolutely love. He sheds invaluable insight into his process and that was something I knew I wanted to emulate if I ever created one for myself. I love what I do and the nuts and bolts behind it and I figured if I could take the time needed to share that insight with others, it would be a lot of fun for me and (hopefully) anybody else who might be interested. Pretty nerdy stuff for sure, but interesting for a select audience.
So I started searching for Blog companies and was pleasantly surprised by how many were out there. I wanted something free because (a) I'm cheap and (b) I didn't want to make the mistake (again) of investing in something I wasn't going to put the necessary time into. WIX had the best ratings, an easy and intuitive design and the ability to upgrade to my heart's content when needed. So I dove in head-first.
Again, this was a single afternoon... I tend to burn hard and fast when I get fixated on a project. LOL
And so here we are, up and running. I'm excited for the possibilities going forward - especially the ability for people to download and share music directly from the site. That is HUGE for me because, well, that's what I'm all about - the music. There are a few technical things on my end to iron out before I'll be getting to that as fast as I can. I also want to make sure I have highest quality and best versions of my music on here before I start asking people to pay for it.
So there ya' go - first Blog. Welcome to my new site - I plan on making it count and appreciate you taking the time to indulge me!
Nostrovia!
